Readers Favorite Awards 2025
This year, I placed The Supermarket Guy 0, Hero To Zero to Hero, into a contest at Readers Favorite in the Humor Fiction Category. It cost near 109 dollars to see how the book would do in this big award show for books. Readers Favorite website link is here, and they promote :
Featuring 820+ winners and finalists in 150+ categories.
This morning was the results, and to my unbiased self, I was not surprised. The top 5 finishing books, were all books of famous directors and authors and best selling people. They do have performance behind their books, so they indeed are well deserved to win. Not saying that you have to be a big name to win all the time, but it certainly helps when they have a system down and they know how to do humor right.
Personally, this sets me back quite a bit. I was hoping to win, the contest, to get money to produce Part 5 as things did not work out well for me in the past few years. There was a time when I was about to press the clutch and put the book in gear for production, but, Roof repairs on my house, and other things kept me from pushing money into something that does not really sell that well in the end. Humor does not sell that well, unless you are a big award winning director or author that has a big name in behind what he does. But, of course, that is not in every case, of course.
But not only that, in losing this contest, it showed me personally I should quit writing. Some things in life are not meant to be. Reality does set in. I did set down the pen, and writing ideas, for quite sometime because in the last few years in watching the performance of my past writings, you obviously have to admit that the books probably are not that marketable and therefore I have to expend my energies elsewhere.
The only way I would produce Part 5 now, only if things go very well for me in the next few years... Market conditions are terrible, with Trump Tariffs, the Canadian Dollar is high for anything to be produced, so I am left again out in the cold.
Part 5 will be shelved, as my entry to the Readers Favorite Competition did not even warrant it a 5 th place finish. Below is the 5 on 5 review I got from Readers Favorite:

An unbelievably lucky streak at a Las Vegas casino’s craps table and incredible acrobatics in the urinal lead Hurmfelt Wannapus to fall for and marry Glorilda. After their momentous decision, they head home, eagerly anticipating a blissful eternity together. Unfortunately for the oblivious couple, fate has a series of speed bumps in store for them, as they are about to learn that raising a family involves more than just exceptional bedroom tactics and a knack for making a quick buck. Unbeknownst to them, Hurmfelt and Glorilda’s antics will one day give rise to a special individual the world will come to know as everyone’s favorite shopping store assistant. Daren Doucet introduces the rather unusual origins of Harold Wannapus in The Supermarket Guy 0.
Daren Doucet reimagines the entertaining Supermarket Guy series with a brilliantly executed prequel that thoroughly explains Harold Wannapus’s eccentricities from the previous books. His detailed account of the reasons behind Hurmfelt’s Vegas adventure and the circumstances leading up to his nuptials creates a concise and relatable origin story for the main character. The dialogue often shifts from raucous comedy to light-hearted chatter, firmly establishing the humorous undertones. Doucet maintains a consistent rhythm, enabling readers to easily follow Hurmfelt’s complex schemes. The church bingo competition stands out from the rest in this regard. Doucet’s narrative style subtly cushions the emotional subplots of child abandonment and marital strife using a mix of humor and sometimes disturbing uses of body fluids. Comedy enthusiasts will appreciate Doucet’s unique blend of realism and humor.
The Review was great, but not enough for an award. I did get a silver star! But, once again, it dictated my future movement on the book. I cannot invest money into something that is not wanted by the masses, or does not reach a high standing in placing in a contest. I restart again at 0. Till next time.
